BAE visit

Author: Michael Rutherford
Date: 12th October 2004

The team went home to find that BAE had invited us to go to the BAE building in Edinburgh to get a tour and to represent BAE's involvement with schools. So the team led by absolutly wonderful person, Mrs Hill, went to BAE. Upon arrival we were welcomed by Simon Cooper and absolutly wonderful person #2, Dr. Hill.

We were taken through the corridors of thew Crewe Toll facility to Simon's office, where we were treated to lovely lunch. After lunch we were led by Simon through another maze of hall's and corridor's of the BAE building, until we arrived at the Clean Lab's.

The team was firstly given a demonstration on the 'Captor Radar' which is now being used in the Eurofighter Typhoon fighter jet. It was a great experience and we all learned alot from the extremly knowledgeable staff.

The team then, travelled down the labs to the next area which was dedicated to the electronic countermeasuers department. we were shown a small video and ask questions to test our knowledge of the system.

The staff deffinatley kept the best for the end. The last thing we got to see in the clean labs was 'DIRCM'. This was also a countermeasuer system that was used to confuse enemy missiles that were attacking an aircraft.

The team had a great day out and really feel that they all learned alot from the kind and helpful staff at BAE's facility.

The team would like to say thank you to everyone at the BAE for giving up there time to talk to us. We would also like to give simon Cooper a very special thanks for doing such a good job.
