Masks, Cards, & Charity ConcertsAuthor: Thomas So once again the club has toiled and laboured, and being as brilliant and productive as they are, have produced this years light circuits. So far, most of these are in masks made by the art department of the High School, but now that all of the masks have been lit up, it's on to making the annual Christmas cards once more. ![]() The circuit board itself has been reduced in size once more. It now measures 34mm by 18mm, holding all components except the battery. Unlike previous versions of our light circuit, instead of controling 5 Light Emiting Diodes, the same chip has been used to contol the timing of 10 LEDs. The chip is near perfect, the only disadvantage being the difficulty of soildering with so little space to work with. The benefits are worth it however, as the smaller the chip, the less it is noticed and the more the lights are. Our top soldierers had been working nearly non stop to get most of the circuits ready on time. ![]() As the Christmas holidays neared, several of the club members had to pratice for performances they were doing in the school's annual Charity Concert. Production slowed down slightly from this, but a tremedous number of circuits had been built and once all of the masks were twinkling, Christmas cards were created, drilled, and lit up the same. There was also a giraffe that looked fabulous with the LEDs in it, although it was morally tough to put holes through it. ![]() The Charity concert was on Thursday 16th December. It was a non uniform day so £1 was collected from the majority of high school pupils. Most teachers were also dressed as pupils, encouraging much humour among pupils. Lollypops were on sale and there was a challenge to name all 47 members of band aid 2004. All of this combined with the money raised from both the masks and the cards has made a fabulous total of nearly £2000. This has been a great success for all parts of the school that worked together to show that they care. This money will be going to local charities as well as a development project in Malawi. The Chipuli project aims at building clean water wells and sanitation facilities in the villages around the Chipuli vilage, in Malawi, Africa. Many thanks and congratulations are due to the hundreds throughout the school who made this possible. Whether it was donating a pound, building masks, performing in the concert, or soldering circuits, everything came together wonderfully.
